Arapawa is considered to be a type of merino, thought to have been abandoned here in the 1800's. The flock therefore has merino characteristics, but has developed over time in its own "bubble" to create a distinctive fiber.
A warm brown color with tan overtones, this fiber is not up to my usual standards for cleanliness. There was quite a bit of VM in it, but it was also very hard to find and get shipped to the U.S., and the sheep are not raised with handspinning in mind, so ... beggars can't be choosers. It's different, and interesting, and very, very rare.
