Sock Patterns

All patterns are now available for purchase as PDF downloads; however, our current shopping cart system does not have an option for automatic downloads, nor does it interface with other, automatic download programs. This is one of the issues we are working to solve as we switch to a new shopping cart program, and hope to have it worked out in the near future.

At the present time, I will directly email a PDF file for each pattern purchased as soon as the order is received. Please be sure that info(a)spirit-trai(dot)net is an accepted address in your address book, so that the email doesn't end up in your SPAM folder. Thank you!

Tilt & Whirl Socks
designed by Jane Cochran

This is a fun pattern to knit with hand painted yarn. The socks are knitted from the cuff down, with a slip-stitch heel flap. Little lace blocks add texture and dimension, and the pattern stitch is easy to follow and remember. The angles created by the decreases tilt, and the shifting colors of the yarn whirl around the sock * Tilt and Whirl!

Yarn: One skein of Spirit Trail Fiberworks Yarn "Sunna," "Frija," or "Alexandra."

Price: $6.00

Hazel River Socks
designed by Lisa Lloyd

The lacey pattern in this sock reminds me of water falling over rocks, andleaves and tree bark. They are named after a river in Rappahannock County which flows in cascading waterfalls down from the Shenandoah National Park, through forests of pine and popl.ar. Lightweight, open and lacey, they are perfect for those days when just a light sock is needed; pretty enough to wear with sandals but substantial enough for shoes as well.

Yarn: Spirit Trail Fiberworks "Sunna," "Frija," or "Alexandra" one skein.

Price: $6.00

Great Falls Ribbed Socks
designed by Bess Haile

Inspired by the beautiful slanted rock formations at Great Falls, Virginia, on the Potomac River, these socks have a rugged look. They are sized for a man's medium-large foot but the rib has a lot of elasticity. To size down for a more narrow woman's foot, decrease the sole stitches or just knit a shorter leg and foot. Instructions are written for double point needles or 2 circular needles, but feel free to use whatever sock knitting needles you prefer.

Yarn: Spirit Trail Fiberworks "Helen" (one skein) or "Birte" (two skeins.

Price: $6.00

Mother ~ Daughter Lace Socks
designed by Bess Haile

What a great gift for a mother and daughter! Because lace doesn*t use as much yarn as other types of knitting, you can easily get a pair of adult and child socks out of an average skein of sock yarn; about 400 yards. Or, if needed, adult socks could be sized up to fit a very large foot or leg by adding an extra knit stitch on either side of each pair of decreases. Likewise, the socks can be sized down to fit very slender feet and legs by using the lace chart in the child's sock pattern. However, a larger sock may not leave enough yarn for the child's version.

Yarn: Spirit Trail Fiberworks "Sunna" or "Frija," one skein.

Price: $6.00

Twisted Cables Socks
designed by Lisa Lloyd

These beautiful socks incorporate cables and ribbing to create a leg-hugging pattern that looks great in both shoes and sandles. A great introduction to knitting cables for the adventurous beginner, and a fun pattern for more experienced knitters, too.

Yarn: Spirit Trail Fiberworks "Birte," two skeins.

Price: $6.00
