This fiber comes from the Falkland Islands. While Polwarth is not a rare breed and there are thousands of Polwarth sheep on the Falkland Islands as well as in New Zealand and other countries, Falkland Islands Polwarth is not always easily found in the United States.
Due to the harsh environment of the Falkland Islands, this fiber is incredibly soft and fine. Some nepping may be present due to its fineness (the best treatment for this fiber would be gentle handcarding or flicking, but I don't have the time to handcard and so I send it to a mill which specializes in fine fiber preparation. Even so, some nepping from the commercial machines occurs at times).
