"Sunna"
(pronounced SOO-nah)
Bronze age Nordic religion centered on the Sun. Sunna is the Scandinavian Goddess of the sun and spinning, whose symbol is a fiery wheel. While the sun seems to have been worshipped as a male deity during the Nordic Bronze Age, later Scandinavian religions pictured the sun as a Goddess, called Sunna in Norse (the English word "Sun" is derived from this Goddess's name ).

Paivatar is the virginial Sun Goddess of Finnish mythology. She lives in the sky and weaves the golden light of day. Her symbols are a batten, a heddle and a golden spindle.

Gauge: 26-30 stitches / 4 inches
Please note that this yarn requires two skeins for one pair of adult socks, for most patterns. Although I used one skein of Paivatar to knit a simple K2-P1 rib sock in ladies size 8-1/2 with a generous leg, if you plan to knit more elaborate patterns or cables (or a larger size), more than one skein of Paivatar will be required.
This yarn would be fabulous for gloves, mittens, fingerless mitts and hats ~ items that would require only one skein. |
