Zalti just debuted at the 2016 New York Sheep & Wool Festival, and did so well that stock is currently limited. The Special Order option is open and active, and I've added extra yarn to that option as I have more of the base in transit right now. So, if I don't have the color you'd like, please consider placing a special order. I can dye Zalti in any colorway on my website (other than the OOAK Soup Pot colors) or any of my new colorways I've recently posted on my FaceBook and Instagram feeds that are not yet up on my site!
Zalti is 100% Targhee wool (NOT superwash!). This is a 100% raised and made in the U.S. product!
210g / approximately 600 yards, Gauge: 14 to 18 stitches over 4 inches (on US 6 - 9 needles)
This yarn is has a wonderful hand with a definite "wooly" feel (may not be next-to-skin soft for those very sensitive to wool). It's fantastic for sweaters, cowls, scarves, hats and mittens and works wonderfully in garter, stockinette, cables and other stitchwork.
Zalti is a variation of the name for Frau Saelde, who was a folk goddess in southern German-speaking lands. Frau Saelde possessed a wheel and an abundance-bearing horn. Many variants of Frau Saelde's name are known—Selten, Zälti, fraw Selga—from Switzerland to Austria. Witch trial transcripts have her leading witches and spirits who roamed the skies on the Ember Nights, a time pregnant with possibilities and omens of the coming year. Tyroleans said that frau Selga could be seen riding at the head of the nightly host.
